The palace serves as the spiritual, cultural, and administrative center of the Benin Kingdom, reflecting centuries of Benin history and royal tradition. Within the palace complex are royal courtyards, ceremonial halls, shrines, meeting areas, and spaces used for important cultural festivals and traditional ceremonies. Visitors may also see impressive Benin artworks, including bronze plaques, ivory carvings (or modern reproductions where appropriate), royal sculptures, and symbols representing the kingdom's rich heritage. Access to many parts of the palace is restricted because it remains the private.
