Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission publishes standing warning lists of investment operators — and a search portal where anyone can verify whether an operator is registered. Most people find these pages only after the money is gone. This page maps SEC’s own record: what the lists are, what SEC’s wording actually says, and the two-minute check to run before you hand anyone your money.

Sources: SEC Nigeria’s Known Investment Scams page, Keep Track of Enforcement Updates (Illegal Operator Alert series), and Keep Track of Circulars — every name and quotation fetched from SEC’s live pages and verified on 3 August 2026. Entity names and quoted sentences are reproduced exactly as SEC published them.

The short answer

SEC Nigeria maintains a rolling Illegal Operator Alert series (29 dated entries from December 2021 to October 2025, 11 of them in 2025 alone) and a “SCHEDULE OF ILLEGAL OPERATORS SEALED UP” (38 entities, 2013–2022). The recurring finding in the alerts, per SEC Nigeria, is that the named promoters are “NOT REGISTERED to operate in any capacity in the Nigerian Capital Market.” Before investing with anyone, verify their registration on SEC’s portal at sec.gov.ng/cmos.

What SEC’s lists actually say

SEC’s investor-education page defines the problem in its own words: “Wonder Banks / Ponzi or Pyramid Schemes are investment scams carried out by unregistered and fraudulent 'investment Operators' who illegally collect money from the public.” (per SEC Nigeria, Understanding Wonder Banks or Ponzi/Pyramid Schemes).

When SEC names a specific operator, its definitive statement is about registration, and the formula recurs across the alert series. From the October 2025 alert: “The public is hereby informed that the promoters and/or issuers of Shalom Coin (SHLM) are NOT REGISTERED to operate in any capacity in the Nigerian Capital Market.” (per SEC Nigeria). Where SEC discusses Ponzi characteristics it uses hedged, evidence-based wording — from the August 2025 GVEST alert: “Investigations have revealed that GVEST GLOBAL has been actively promoted on social media platforms and online forums. Furthermore, its operations exhibit typical indicators and characteristics commonly associated with Ponzi schemes.” — and warns that anyone who deals with an unregistered operator does so, in SEC’s words, “...as any person who does so is at his own risk.” (per SEC Nigeria).

SEC’s most recent blanket notice (signed MANAGEMENT, 8 May 2026) states: “Many of these investment schemes exhibit characteristics of Ponzi or Prohibited investment schemes...” and that “under the provisions of the Investments and Securities Act, 2025, only entities registered by the Commission are authorised to promote investment services, provide investment advisory services or solicit funds from the public in the Nigerian capital market.” (per SEC Nigeria, public notice on unregistered online investment schemes).

Recent Illegal Operator Alerts

A sample of entities named in SEC’s alert series, newest first — names reproduced exactly as SEC published them, with SEC’s page linked beside each. The alert is SEC’s statement, not Ranked’s: per SEC, the recurring finding is that the named promoters are “NOT REGISTERED to operate in any capacity in the Nigerian Capital Market.” SEC has updated or lifted alerts over time — always open the linked SEC page for current status.

On CBEX, SEC’s June 2025 alert states: “The Commission hereby restate unequivocally that neither CBEX nor ST Technologies International Ltd (or Smart Treasure/Super Technology) is registered with the Commission or authorized to offer investment related services to the Nigerian public.” and “The Nigerian public is accordingly advised to REFRAIN from patronising or transacting with CBEX/ST Technologies International Ltd (Smart Treasure or Super Technology) as they risk losing their funds.” (per SEC Nigeria).

The older record: operators sealed up, 2013–2022

SEC’s “Known Investment Scams” page (SEC’s title, published 14 August 2023) carries a table headed “SCHEDULE OF ILLEGAL OPERATORS SEALED UP” listing 38 entities sealed up between 2013 and 2022. Sample entries, as SEC lists them:

  • Women in Oil LtdKaduna State, 2013
  • Loom Nigeria Money2019
  • MBA Forex and Investment Ltd2019
  • Oxford International GroupLagos/Portharcourt, 2022
  • Farmforte Agro Allied SolutionsLagos/Abuja, 2022
  • Ovaioza Farm Produce Storage BusinessAbuja, 2022

This schedule covers 2013–2022 only; the alert series above is the fresher record for 2024–2026.

Before you invest: the two-minute check

SEC’s alerts close with the same instruction, in SEC’s words: “The investing public is therefore reminded to VERIFY the registration status of companies and entities offering investment opportunities on the Commission's dedicated portal - www.sec.gov.ng/cmos, before transacting with them.” Here is that check, with the exact pages:

  1. Verify registration. Search the operator’s name on sec.gov.ng/cmos (SEC’s Find a Registered Operator portal). For digital-asset and fintech operators, also check SEC’s registered fintech operators list. Not found means, per SEC’s May 2026 notice, the entity is not authorised to solicit funds from the public in the Nigerian capital market.
  2. Check the warning lists. Search the name on SEC’s Enforcement Updates page (entity alerts) and its Circulars page (blanket notices) — new warnings appear on both. CBN also runs a Fraud and Scam Awareness page covering investment-scheme warnings; there is no standing joint CBN+SEC list.
  3. Understand the difference. SEC publishes FAQs on differentiating Ponzi/pyramid schemes from registered fund and portfolio managers — its own guide to telling a registered fund or portfolio manager apart from the schemes its alerts cover.

Methodology

How this page is built

SEC’s pages only
Every entity name on this page appears on an SEC-published page, is reproduced exactly as SEC wrote it, and links to the SEC source. Ranked adds no names, no adjectives, and no characterization of its own — the page reports the regulator’s record verbatim.
Why we don’t republish media “full lists”
In July 2025, SEC said 79 suspected schemes were under investigation and that findings would be made public after investigation — but SEC never published a 79-name list. Media “FULL LIST” headlines circulating at the time did not correspond to any SEC publication, so this page ignores them. The EFCC separately issued a March 2025 public alert naming operators, per press reports; because we could not verify that list on an official EFCC page, we do not republish its names.
Update cadence
SEC’s alerts are irregular and event-driven: 29 entries on the enforcement-updates page (December 2021 to October 2025, 11 in 2025 alone), with newer blanket notices posting to the Circulars page (latest: 14 May 2026). Both pages offer RSS feeds; we poll both on each refresh.
Status can change
SEC has updated or lifted alerts after publication. Entries here are a snapshot of SEC’s record as verified on 3 August 2026 — the linked SEC page, not this one, is the current status of any entity.

Cadence: SEC publishes alerts as events occur, not on a schedule; this page is refreshed against SEC’s enforcement-updates and circulars pages, and was last verified on 3 August 2026. Nothing here is investment advice, and inclusion of an entity reflects only SEC’s published record at the linked URL. Before any money moves, run the registration check on sec.gov.ng/cmos yourself — it takes two minutes and it is the regulator’s own answer.
