Before visiting, I checked their Instagram page and confirmed their closing time as 6:00 pm. It was only a few minutes to closing, and although there was no “Closed” sign on the glass display door, I could clearly see another customer still shopping inside, so I decided to stop by briefly to pick up a few items and leave quickly.
I was not stopped at the entrance. Had I been told they were no longer accepting customers, I would have understood and left. Inside, I saw a gentleman seated and politely asked if I could briefly charge my phone to view a screenshot of an item I wanted to purchase. He graciously allowed me.
As a first-time visitor, I didn’t know the store layout, so I had to go through the aisles carefully. There were two attendants attending to other customers who were checking out, and the atmosphere initially seemed fine. I expected a similar level of courtesy.
However, when one attendant finally noticed I was struggling to locate an item and I asked for help, she pointed me in the direction in a very nonchalant manner and informed me they were about to close—accompanied by an unpleasant look. I assured her I would be quick.
I picked up my items promptly, with a bill of almost ₦60,000, and asked for the account number to make a transfer. She pointed at it without even looking up. I plugged my phone in briefly to complete the transfer, and she immediately spoke to me rudely and harshly, stating that charging was not allowed.
This was confusing and frustrating, as I had already informed them before shopping that my battery was low and was told I could proceed. How exactly was I expected to make payment?
I completed the transfer and left, but the experience left a very sour taste. Customer service was absolutely zero. It’s disappointing that a store so beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and stocked with good products would employ staff who are condescending and outright disrespectful.
Business owners invest so much into building brands, only for poor customer-facing staff to damage them. If online shopping is an option, I strongly recommend it instead. The walk-in experience is terrible, and I do not recommend visiting the physical store unless there is a significant improvement in customer service.
