Ranked DataCBN register watch
Every capture of the CBN register, and what moved between them
Ranked reads the CBN register of financial institutions (supervision API feeds) from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s own site and keeps the reading whole, under the date it was taken. Nothing is overwritten. This page lists 1 capture and, where there are two to compare, the entries that differ between them.

A difference between two captures is a fact about two captures
When this page says a name printed on one date is not printed on a later one, that is all it says, and you can check it yourself by downloading both captures. It is not a statement that a licence was withdrawn, that a business closed, or that anything was decided by the CBN.
Registers lag. On 3 August 2026 the CBN’s live microfinance feed still carried at least six banks whose licences it had revoked effective 1 July 2026, so a name can stay in a register for a month after the licence has gone. A name can also leave a capture because the regulator re-spelled it, re-keyed its own table, merged two rows, moved a page, or because a fetch missed part of the register. Each of those looks identical to an enforcement action in a diff, and none of them is one. For a licence decision, read the CBN’s own notices, not this page.

The captures
Each capture is the register as it was read on that date, in the register’s own order, with nothing of Ranked’s added to it. Each has its own permanent URL and none of them will change again.
1,029 entries as the register printed them that day.
What differs between consecutive captures
The same comparisons are available as JSON at /dataset/registers/changes/cbn.json, with every row rather than the first 200 of each list.
There is one capture of this register so far, taken on 3 September 2026. A comparison needs two, so the first one appears here after the next reading. Ranked does not compare a capture against the live register: that would be a claim nobody could check later.
Methodology
How two captures are compared
- What is compared
- Two captures of the same register, both taken by Ranked from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s own site, never a capture against the live register. Both files stay published, so the comparison is reproducible by anyone.
- How an entry is matched to itself
- By the identifier the register prints, where it prints one. The CBN prints a cbn record id on its rows. Where there is no identifier, an entry is matched on its name after lowercasing, stripping punctuation and dropping trailing legal forms such as Limited and Plc, together with its licence class, because a register that prints one row per licence lists a company holding three licences three times. Two entries that are identical in every printed field are matched one to one and in order.
- What a difference cannot tell you
- Why. A diff sees two files, not a decision. An entry can be absent because a licence ended, because a name was re-spelled, because two rows were merged, because the regulator re-keyed its table, or because a fetch missed a page. Where an entry kept its register identifier and changed name, that is reported separately, since a re-spelling would otherwise read as a name leaving the register.
- What Ranked does not do
- Ranked does not certify, grade or determine any entity’s licence status, and does not publish a diff as an enforcement finding. Nothing on this page is a verdict on any business named on it.
