• SZ U ★★★★★ — I phoned Taal Specialist Hospital for an orthopaedic specialist; they confirmed a surgeon was on duty. We walked into the facility with my child on 28 August 21 around 6.00pm, and one person who claimed to be the ortho surgeon attended to us. The doc suggested the cast was too tight and needed to open and recast the forearm. Unknown to us Taal has nothing to work with. It took the doctor four hours to open the cast manually, cruelly and unprofessionally even when the child was crying and wailing. He used surgical blades and, in the process, injured the child's forearm in many places. I asked him a simple question of why not get his equipment wherever before he starts. He flared up and started talking arrogantly that as a surgeon, he knew what he was doing. I insisted and requested him to get his tools before he injured the child more. The doctor left the facility without talking to even his staff and kept us waiting for over one hour. It was approaching midnight and I had to ask the staff to enquire of his whereabout. The nurses called but there was no response from the doctor.  I asked for payment receipts as we wanted to leave, which I was not given after paying N50,000 for an unprofessional service of the so-called orthopaedic surgeon. They claimed the admin has closed, and non could issue a receipt till on Monday. It was when I was leaving one woman called and said they would refund the money to me, I told her I wanted medical service that’s why I came to the hospital.  I left the facility dejected with the child in more serious pain, due to open wounds, half opened cast, and untreated. It was a bizarre experience in Taal Hospital and anybody visiting should go there at his/her own risk. The facility harbors quacks in disguise as medical professionals. I'm contemplating seeking redress of such an unprofessional attitude of the Taal Hospital through my legal counsel to the NMA Lagos State branch.
