Ifunanya O.★★★★★ — Ikeja Electric (IE) has shown me shege since I moved to this new place, but I'm not going to write about all of that here. My advice is to investigate the house you're moving to thoroughly before you pay the rent and ensure you're not incurring previous debt. If it's a new house, as is my case, ensure the landlord had sorted the meter before moving in.
Since June, I've been apprehensive about power until we got our meter last mid-October. As I type, I sit in darkness because Ikeja Electric debited the recent credit to my meter account as part of the payment to the debt I’d incurred.
Today was my first time at the IE office, and I’d expected them to be brash as they'd shown themselves to be the many times they’d come to my compound to disconnect our light without consideration for my good neighbours and me.
I felt surprised to meet a decent woman at the front desk who took her time to answer my many questions. I felt my annoyance dissipate as she calmly went over what she’d explained to me before. That's power there, I thought. I forgot to get her name; I would have given her a shout-out.
Today, I learnt I could contest debts on my account by requesting a reconciliation of account. IE would reduce the amount to the max net pay according to your account. Before I got a meter, IE billed me 150k every month. The max net on my account is 50k+. This means if they reconcile my account, What I’d then incur would be 50k+ every month and not 150k as they’d initially billed me.
