Beautiful place but I wasn’t allowed to explore the exterior adequately because it was required that a bottle of Scnapps be given to an elder with some money before a tour guide could take you round the palace and I didn’t go prepared for that. My advice is go prepared with the…

I had a lovely time at the Ooni’s Palace, learning about Yoruba and Ife history from the palace staff and tour guides, who were very friendly and welcoming. I’d recommend visiting as a group for an even better experience.

The Palace itself can't be visited unless you are invited by the aooni himself. We visited the temple and the murtiaries of previous Ooni's. Fascinating. The adjacent Museum has a beautiful yet small collection of artefacts and pieces of art. Unfortunately none are dated.
