I retook the train in Feb and discovered that cash had been discontinued. Whoop whoop. Now, you use a portal or mobile app to buy tickets.
I purchased tickets at the station the first time around. The second time, I bought them online, went to the station, and was told there was an NLC strike and that the trains were not operating.
I bought 11 tickets in total for that day's trip, and when I contacted the team, they said there were no refunds and that I should go to the station to "see" how they could help me with the tickets I had already purchased.
As I type this now, I have yet to have another opportunity to need the train, so I don't know if I can reuse the tickets in the future.

I recently took a ride on the Train to Ibadan, and here's my experience:
On the positive side, the affordability of the fare, with the standard ticket at a fair price of 3,600, was quite a pleasant surprise.
The cleanliness of the cabins, as seen in the pictures, exceeded my expectations and certainly deserves commendation. With the ground staff being accommodating and friendly, the overall experience was considerably more pleasant than I had envisioned.
However, several areas could use improvement.
❌ The cash-only payment method was a bit of a setback, and the exact cash requirement was simply frustrating.
❌ Processes on board could also be streamlined, as having my ticket checked three times throughout the journey disrupted the peace and made rest nearly impossible.
❌ Lastly, the trip time could be better. The train took an hour longer than a by-road journey would have, an essential factor if you're on a tight schedule.
Overall, it was a mixed bag of satisfaction - commendable service yet room for considerable improvement, especially in payment options and streamlining onboard procedures.

The train’s AC is on full blast and there are charging ports. They kept to the schedule and I arrived at my venue on time. Announcements were made in English and Yoruba in the train. You are required to wear a face mask. However, they only accept cash payments. I think this should be worked on as it makes it easier if there’s a card payment option. The shops in the station are not functional so getting food or snacks is almost impossible. If you have minors or need to eat, best advised you get your food before getting to the station. It was a good experience and I hope it remains that way.
