    • Nicole ★★★★ I walked into Tranquil Health in Lagos hoping to get a proper diagnosis and some real help. I spoke candidly with the psychiatrist, who seemed disengaged for most of my share and quickly referred me to the psychologist. While the psychologist initially listened and affirmed my feelings, it soon became clear that her main interest was monetary. She gave me her number, and during our second session presented a chart with graphs, expressing optimism that I could cope without medication. However, I became very uncomfortable when she referenced another patient, comparing their situation to mine and even divulging details. This felt like a serious breach of confidentiality and left me wondering if my own sessions would later be shared with others. The last straw was when she offered to provide additional sessions privately online—at the same clinic rates, but clearly outside of the clinic’s structure and for her personal gain. When I politely declined, saying I preferred face-to-face sessions, she suddenly suggested evening meetings, an option she had never mentioned before. This behavior felt very unprofessional and exploitative, especially considering the vulnerable state clients are in when seeking therapy. Ms. Bose, please handle your clients with more care. Mental illness is real, and everything should not be about money. To make matters worse, the “diagnosis” I eventually received was vague and only given after I asked multiple times. I will not be coming back.
    • Hilary M. ★★★★★ There were both positive and negative aspects to my stay at Tranquil and Quest. On the positive side, the group therapy, individual therapy, and art sessions were very good. Many of the nurses and healthcare workers were kind and relatable, and the doctors were calm and attentive. The activities were engaging, the itinerary varied, and there was generous free time for games, music, and social interaction. However, it did not feel like a true retreat from the outside world; the initial sense of calm wore off after a few days. Many staff members demonstrated poor conflict resolution skills between patients, particularly the nurses and matrons, and sometimes allowed their personal feelings to interfere with treatment. I also noticed a few rats during my stay, which was concerning. Some healthcare staff would ask for food, which felt inappropriate; it is better to be offered than to ask, especially when working with vulnerable patients. I also felt the facility is better suited for treating individuals struggling with addiction than for those with complex mental health issues. The medication I received was not ideal for me, and unfortunately, I relapsed. More careful prescribing of medication for complex mental health conditions, as well as efforts to import medications not commonly available in Nigeria, could make a significant difference for patients like me. On the brighter side, the food was good, and the catering staff were friendly. The occupational therapist was excellent and very supportive. More sessions with her, along with a clear, step-by-step plan for building a career post-discharge, would be very helpful. More attention needs to be given to relapse prevention and preparing patients for the challenges of the real world. Staff were not particularly proactive with aftercare; patients must be intentional about calling or texting for medication refills and therapy appointments. More check-ins, regular post-discharge medication reviews, and appointment reminders would go a long way in improving outcomes. Overall, Tranquil and Quest is not a bad place, and the staff do not have bad intentions. However, given the cost and the way the facility positions itself as a high-quality treatment center, more work is needed for it to truly live up to its name.
