Peter O.★★★★★ — Attending the NYSC Orientation Camp in Keffi, Nasarawa State, is a memorable experience, filled with a blend of excitement, discipline, learning, and a few challenges along the way.
Location & Accessibility
The camp is located in Keffi, which is relatively accessible from Abuja and surrounding towns. Transport to the camp is fairly easy to find, but traffic and road conditions may vary.
Environment & Facilities
The environment is quite spacious with large parade grounds and basic accommodation. The hostels are manageable, though not luxurious – expect bunk beds, shared rooms, and public restrooms. It's advisable to come with essentials like a mosquito net, toiletries, a bucket, and beddings.
Food & Welfare
Meals are provided three times daily, but many corps members prefer supplementing with food from the mammy market, where you’ll find snacks, cooked meals, and supplies at moderate prices. The mammy market is also a social hub where friendships and memories are made.
Activities & Discipline
The camp is very structured – from morning drills by soldiers at 5:00 am to lectures, skill acquisition programs (SAED), and various competitions. The military presence ensures discipline and order. While the routine can be tiring at first, many find it rewarding over time.
Medical & Safety
The camp clinic is functional, with basic medications and services available. For anything serious, corps members are referred to the general hospital. Security is generally okay, with soldiers and NYSC officials present 24/7.
Social Life
Cultural nights, talent shows, sports, and the famous "Mr. Macho & Miss NYSC" competitions make it lively. It’s a great place to network and meet people from diverse backgrounds.
NYSC Camp in Keffi may not be luxurious, but it offers a rich, character-building experience. Come prepared, keep a positive mindset, and you’ll make the most of it. It’s not just about serving your country but about self-discovery, growth, and lasting friendships.

Gbolahan A.★★★★★ — Didn't have water in my room and they didn't fix it till we left. They don't serve any tea or coffee. We had to go out of the hotel to buy from road side
CHARLES A.★★★★★ — When you see a well-managed hotel, it just shows, Al-Vari Hotel Annex is one well-managed hotel.
Heard it is formerly Crystal Guest House.
Lodged here for 7 days for a training and I enjoyed my stay:
Loved the quality of the bed, how they even dress the bed, the 6 pillows, the electric kettle in the room, the 24-hour light, the quality of the lighting in the room and the serene environment.
I noticed how my co-participants for the training were so full of praise for the hotel.
Some, being long-time customers, mentioned how the hotel while it was Crystal used to be good when the original founder was yet alive.
They also mentioned their horrible experiences during the period after the founder died and before Al-Vari Hotel took over management of the facility.
They now express happiness at the good work Al-Vari is doing.
Only few things the management needs to work on, fixing their intercom and keeping slippers in the rooms. I didn't see any slippers in Deluxe Room 8 I staye in.
It is rare for me to miss a hotel after I leave but I kinda missed this one.
Well done to the Al-Vari team
